Warning: The following review may contain spoilers for the contents of Fortunate: Tarot Poetry by Kim Rashidi.

Short Summary

Inside this book, you will find 78 poems, one for each card in the Major and Minor Arcana—all a poetic interpretation by the author. An index is included at the back to help readers navigate the poems as primarily this book is intended to be used for “readings,” with blank pages beside each poem for the reader to use however they wish, in essence becoming the co-author of their own copy.

My Review:

I really liked the idea of a poem for each card and a space to “co-author” something beside each one. For the most part I enjoyed it, but sometimes the language felt a bit pretentious and just as “mysterious” as the tarot deck itself. The pacing of the poems felt a little off as well. It took me way longer than usual to read this book. It was a decent enough read, but not something I would seriously use in practice or reread. 2/5 stars.

My Favorite Line(s):

  • “you radiate who you are with / such confidence / that the tips of your fingers leave the trail of / personality / wherever they go.” This is such a lovely way to think about existing.

  • “just as the sun whispers a daily / colourful adieu, so must you.” Putting a positive spin on changes and endings can be so hard. Thinking of them like sunsets makes it feel warmer.
